2023-2024 graduate Scholarship Application

Eligibility Requirements

The Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia offers scholarships annually to deserving students of Greek descent pursuing full-time graduate degrees or to students pursuing full-time graduate degrees in Greek Studies (regardless of heritage), at accredited universities or professional schools. Applicants must be of Greek descent or students who are declared majors in Greek Studies (regardless of heritage), and U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents of Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton or Philadelphia Counties in Pennsylvania; Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer, Monmouth, Ocean or Salem Counties in New Jersey; New Castle County in Delaware.

Graduate students may elect to use their school address as their permanent address if they submit taxes on their own.

Eleftheria applicants have no residency requirements.

Please note:

  • Applicants must be enrolled in full-time graduate programs during the 2023-2024 academic year. They do not need to know which institution they will attend or what financial aid package they will receive to be eligible to apply for Hellenic University Club Scholarships at the time of the application.

Completed applications, as outlined below, must be received on Monday, April 3, 2023.

INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANT

  • Determine if you are eligible to apply for a Graduate Scholarship (see above). Review our 2023–2024 offerings here. Indicate which scholarship(s) you are applying for in question 10 of the application.

  • Access and complete the Graduate Scholarship Application below. Once you have completed and submitted the application, email the supporting documents (see below) to HucScholarships@gmail.com. Send everything (except the two letters of recommendation) in one email by 5:00 pm on Monday, April 3, 2023.

  • Supporting Documents:

1. ESSAY: Submit a cohesive essay of one to two pages that addresses all of the following:

  • How has Paideia, the lifelong pursuit of learning and education, affected your choice to pursue your respective field? Reflect on and describe the experiences that have led you down the path you are currently (or will be) on.

  • Is there a particular area in your chosen field you are passionate about? If so, what have you done (or plan to do) to pursue it? If not, what do you hope to explore in your graduate studies?

  • Looking forward, where do you see yourself five years after obtaining your graduate degree? What would you like to accomplish in the remaining time of your education and in your career?

Please note that students applying for the Chios Society of Philadelphia “Koraes” Scholarship must submit an additional essay of no longer than one page.

  • Describe the effect of your Chian roots on your life. Indicate the name(s) of your Chian parent(s) or grandparent(s), the name of town they were born in, and whether you have ever visited Chios.

2. ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPTS:  Email all official academic transcripts from all colleges and universities attended at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. If your institution requires that it send official transcripts directly to us, please have them sent to: Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia Scholarship Awards Committee, P.O. Box 42199, Philadelphia, PA 19101-2199.

3. RESUME: Email a resume describing academic honors, publications, recent achievements, activities, professional organizations you belong to, and work experiences reflecting interest in the field you are pursuing.

4. FAFSA STUDENT AID REPORT: All scholarships, except the Padis, Chios “Koraes”, and Eleftheria Scholarships, will require you to submit via email: page 1 of your Student Aid Report (SAR) from FAFSA and financial package letter (with tuition paid and stipend provided by the University), if received.

5. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Request two (2) letters of recommendation on official letterhead from full-time faculty members who are familiar with your academic record and/or professionals who are able to appraise your aptitude for graduate study in your chosen field. Applicants who have pursued graduate course work may have their graduate adviser complete one of the recommendations. Applicants who have graduated and have had full-time employment may have their employer or immediate supervisor complete one of the recommendations. Ask them to email the letters to HucScholarships@gmail.com. You will be able to provide their contact information in question 9.

Note: The committee reserves the right to determine your eligibility for scholarships that you have not selected above.
